Bleached pine cones

Pine cones are little wonders of nature. I just love them and i use them liberly in autumn and christmas decorations, bringing nature indoors
Wreaths, flower arrangements and as decor. I just cant have enough of them.
My favorite is the soft ivory colored ones, they make any arrangement look sophisticated.

Equipment

  • 1 10 L Bucket
  • 1 Rubber gloves
  • 1 Plate

Ingredients

  • Pine cones
  • Chlorine

Instructions

  • Gather enough Pine cones to fill a 10 L bucket
  • Fill bucket with clorine, approximetly 8-9 L
  • Make sure all Pine cones are submerged (the volume of cones will become smaller as they close up)
  • Put a weight on top of the cones to keep them submerged. An upside down plate works fine.
  • Afer 3-6 days the pine cones are ready to be rinsed and dried. Check your cones after 3 days and take out those that are bleached, leave the rest and check daily

Notes

This is a super easy way to get beautiful light colored pine cones. Please note that they will differ in color. Not all will be ivory white. Variation is the beauty of nature and it will look stunning in any arrangement that you make.
You can dry your cones out in the sun, evenly spread out. Or in your oven set at 60 degrees, make sure you leave the oven door a bit ajar so the humidity can escape. A litte warning though, it will smell a bit like an indoor swimming pool lol
If you leave your pine cones to long in the clorine they will break down.
- Safety First: Always handle bleach with care. Use gloves, work in a well-ventilated area, and avoid inhaling fumes.
- Patience: Bleaching pine cones is a slow process. Don’t rush it; allow ample time for soaking and drying.
